1. LET YOUR DOUGH HANG OUT.
Two hours before you want to bake your pizza, bring your dough out of the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature.
2. GET YOUR OVEN AND TOPPINGS READY.
About 20 minutes before you’re ready to bake the pizza, set a rack inside your oven in the 2nd space from the bottom, and preheat the oven to 500F. If you have a baking stone, preheat that inside the oven. Alternatively, if using a rimmed baking pan, you can lightly oil the pan (do not preheat). Drain the water from the mozzarella container, and cut the mozzarella into slices.
3. WORK THE DOUGH.
Flour a work surface (a counter, table, or large cutting board). Using a pair of scissors, cut open the container of pizza dough and gently drop the pizza dough onto the floured surface. Flour the top of the dough and with your fingertips, lightly stretch the dough into an 8-inch rectangle or round. The dough should be soft and easily stretchable. If not, you can cover the floured dough with plastic wrap and let rest 15-30 minutes until it is more easily stretchable. If using a baking stone, transfer the dough to a lightly floured pizza peel or the back of a floured baking pan. If baking in a pan, transfer the dough to the oiled pan.
4. TOP IT.
Using clean hands or a ladle, spread the tomato sauce all over the pizza, being careful not to let it drip over the edge of the dough. The sauce is seasoned with extra virgin olive oil and salt, which will help flavor your pizza. Tear the sliced mozzarella all over the tomato sauce.
5. BAKE IT.
If using a baking stone, slide your pizza from the peel or back of a pan onto the preheated stone inside your oven. Or, if using a sheet pan, slide the pan into the oven. Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes (depending on how well your oven maintains heat!) until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the crust is a deep golden brown. Transfer the pizza back to a peel or cutting board, or leave on the rimmed baking sheet.
6. FINISH IT (IF YOU CAN WAIT!) AND ENJOY
Using a chef’s knife or pizza wheel, cut the pizza into your desired number of slices, and top each with a few basil leaves. Buon Appetito!
